Teaching allows you to make a difference as you invest in young people. Unfortunately, teaching also includes stressors that create educational exhaustion. Academic institutions at all grade levels recognize this reality and offer solutions such as mental health breaks, massage chairs, and dress-down days. However, you must also incorporate self-care into your daily routine. Taking thoughtful steps as you address educational exhaustion can better protect your mental and physical health while also decreasing the likelihood of burnout. Focus on what you can control and change, then release the rest. For example, you may be unable to increase your salary or hire more co-workers, but you can maintain work-life balance, utilize different classroom management techniques, and monitor your behavior and attitude. While teaching is a rewarding career, educational exhaustion is a genuine concern. Prioritizing your needs can reduce stress and energize you to continue making a positive impact in your students’ lives.
